Trillanes asks AMLC: Release Duterte’s bank history

SEN. Antonio Trillanes IV yesterday asked the Anti-Money Laundering Council to release a list of bank transactions of President Duterte starting 2006, when he was still mayor of Davao City.

In a letter to AMLC, Trillanes told Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Gov. Amando Tetangco Jr. that the public pronouncements of Duterte directing AMLC to open to the public his bank transactions "Would be sufficient for this purpose." "I believe that President Duterte's public announcement to release his bank transactions is just a political bluff because simply writing a waiver addressed to the bank would have been much simpler," he said.

Duterte has ordered AMLC to reveal his true wealth and investigate the accusations of Trillanes that he has billions in the bank.

Trillanes last week claimed that Duterte accumulated more than P2 billion in several bank transactions since he was city mayor.

The senator said it has been months since he first exposed Duterte's bank accounts during the campaign season but Duterte has yet to reveal the history of his bank transactions.

Trillanes said he believes that the public statement and very categorical claim of the President to release his bank transactions, which were publicized in major radio and TV networks, and newspapers, would be sufficient for AMLC to release the documents, even without Duterte's formal and written request.

"If the AMLC could not release the President's bank transactions, then this is another proof that he is again fooling the Filipino people," Trillanes added. - FNW
